Pig Walking

A few days before their scheduled departure from the farm, the pigs got lose. They made their way through the fences and into the milker pen. We found them chasing our beloved goats and jumped in quickly. Nearly two hours later, they were inside the trailer. That was quite the challenge.

We will be rethinking things for the next group of pigs that come to the ranch. Nose rings and pens away from the goats are a must. Hot wire and stick training are probably needed. A week of eating dinner in the trailer- for sure!

Jeff
took the pigs to the butcher today. It is always sad- but having Jeff take them made it a lot more bearable. Having them act like crazy pigs- that helped ease the trip too. Still, the process isn't easy- but knowing my fam will not be eating hormone and antibiotic "enriched" pork- from pigs raised in terrible confined conditions... if you are going to eat pork then this is the most humane and nutritious/ healthiest way to do so.

First, here are the human  piggies...

Cambrie saw a little girl with painted toes and really liked em. So when we got home, I painted her little piggies. She loves them!

Here are the other red piggies running around here-

Piggies and Potatoes

Pictures from the past week...

First the piggies... aren't they cute in an ugly sorta way? They remind me of Morph from Morph and Mindy I think. Maybe not. I can't remember the same of the old tv show- but there is an old show with a character that the piggies resemble.

They LOVE milk and eggs. Apparently, the strawberries aren't too bad either. For the record, the eggs are cracked or yuck ones, the milk is older milk, and the strawberries are the heads I cut off.

I read that milk raised pork is very tender. Yum, yum! I feel a little guilty... but I am thinking of all the cuts I want...porkchops, ribs, ham, bacon, sausage.

Oh ya, they had leftover bread too.

On to the potatoes...

We put the rest of the potatoes in the ground this past week. I made french fries and potato chips the other day out of potatoes that turned out pretty darn good, so I am inspired to follow through with the seedlings. BTW, doesn't the Roo look so old?
Picture
I think we have around 100 seedlings in the ground of Yukon Gold and Red La Soda. Wish us luck!

And what would a post be without the crinkle nose smile!

God Bless!
