I tried to order most of my seeds locally. I used Willhite Seeds but found out when I picked up my seeds they have all their seeds shipped in, So much for local! At least the seed company itself is local, right?  We set up grow lights, a tray warmer, and got busy planting.

Within a few days, seeds started sprouting! Lettuce was the first followed by onions.

We learned pretty quick our lights were too far away from the seedlings. The little plants were stretching toward the lights. The lights stayed on 14 hours day.

We moved the lights closer and that helped significantly.

Once the weather warmed up and the plants grew stronger, we moved them outside during the day.

On the Outside...

I paid a neighbor down the road to till up a section of our land. I'd estimate the size was 40 x 300 ft.

In February, this is what the *garden* looked like-

After a good 18 inch tiling, this is what is looked like-

We let the ground settle for a fews months, then got busy planting. April looked like this-

April showers brought May GRASS! Good grief! In about a month, the grass (in the garden area only) grew about 3 ft! It pretty much took over everything.

Okay, time for plan b: raised garden beds!
